The majority of residential real estate transactions typically deal with the largest asset one owns.  The thought process of hiring the correct representation is highly critical to making sure you either negotiate the best deal on a purchase or sale which is not always in terms of direct monetary value.  Interviewing your potential representation, whether it is formal or informal, is my ‘must do’ recommendation.  It is vital to understand and agent’s real estate experience, credentials, personality, and it’s always a plus if you can call references of the agent’s recent transactions.  Even if you have a long term friend or family member in the industry, it is a good idea to interview several agents before you decide what the best financial decision may be for representation.  Because selling or buying may not happen often, being smart about your representation definitely matters when dealing with your largest monetary asset.
